Peace, P.Y.T, please introduce yourself to the readers who may be unfamiliar and let them know what you do.
They Call Me P.Y.T and I am an unsigned female recording artist from Carson,California. I write, record, and perform my own music. I also have a background in audio engineering and music production.
You also have been on Netflix, HBO and on shows like “Baddies Atl” and “Insecure.” How did these opportunities come about and is on camera acting something you’d like to do more of?
These opportunities came about because by the grace of God, someone on Instagram contacted me in 2019. Due to the fact that I am an optimistic person I prayed about it then took on the task. Though at first I was advised against it I’m glad that I decided to try. The trying turned into me writing for TV for the last four years. Acting on screen is not so much a dream or goal of mine. I prefer to do the music and or write scripts to be honest.
As mentioned, your passion is being an artist. Describe your sound to those who may have never heard your music before.
My sound is just fun, raw and real. I am direct in my performances making eye contact etc because I want you to feel me and hear me. When I write music I like to be descriptive so that you see what I’m saying on the beat. The musical sound I like ranges from pop to R&B to trap hip hop. I like the 808s in my music when the beat drops. My music is fun but I feel that it’ll make you really listen not just to repeat but to actually hear me.
Tell us about your most recent release, the “24” EP produced by Too Raw. What were you going for when putting together this project and do you feel you accomplished it in three songs?
I just wanted to make the music that I was feeling at the time. I got the Detroit type beats then the west coast with “On Granny.” I wanted to just have fun but also tell a story. “On Granny,” is me speaking on how I get to the business and how I handle business. “Amber '' was my take on the Amber Heard v Johnny Depp trial which is how the line “I’m shxtting where these bxtches lay Amber heard” came from. The track “24” was a nod to Kobe but more so to let people know stop hating on people that’s out here handling their business with their 24 hours while you do nothing with yours. I believe we all have the same opportunities so don’t waste the time to get it.
We understand you're busy and don’t want to take too much of your time. Before we wrap up, why should the readers stream “24” and check out your music if they haven’t already and where can they do so?
I say check out my music to hear someone different. The industry is over saturated with the same voices, styles, image, sound, etc. I say give me a listen and see if you rock with me. No pressure. I’m done with the days of trying to convince people. If you want something new press play and if I’m not your cup of tea that’s cool too.
What is your definition of “Overtime Hustlin”?
My definition is consistently and constantly going after whatever it is you have your heart set on. No stopping, no whining, no hand outs just go and get it. Learn how to use your time wisely so that you can hustle smarter. Goal is to hustle smarter, not harder. When you know at the end of the day you gave it your all before you close your eyes and then some, your Overtime Hustlin A1.
