Sway Guevara (Artist Spotlight)

Posted by Twenty1K on April 14, 2017 at 10:55 PM Comments comments (0)

Hailing from the East, Massachusetts native Sway Guevara seeks to take the rap game by storm. With themes heavily influenced by the 90’s hip hop era and pop culture, you can definitely sense the nostalgia in the titles of songs such as “Super Mario World 3” and “Rugrats”. Influenced at very young age, Sway’s 6 year old self was coerced into the hip hop culture after hearing a song by Tupac Shakur when browsing the airwaves. The young rapper described the feeling as ‘finding something he knew was missing’, and after watching his parents’ divorce around his toddling years the sentiment is understandable. Sway sought more rap music after his chance encounter and immediately gravitated to the airwave-dominating Tupac and Biggie, but found new inspiration in artists Eminem and Ludacris whose careers he followed closely. With a rough total of about 140+ songs, under his previous pen name “Smokey Robinson” combined with his current handle, on soundcloud, Sway boasts consistency in his growth and content. Whether it be his slower tempo, bar heavy, old-school hip hop reminiscent tracks (with plenty of nods to the lyrical methodology of major influences Big Pun and big L), or the fresher sound of trap oriented, feel good romps: SwayGuevara is serving the best of both worlds. A testament eagerly sought, and soon to be explored by his first official EP: “SWAYZEEWORLD”.
